Edge and Back’s interview with Ryan Frye

Edge and Back has for you an interview with Ryan Frye, actor, musician, writer and cosplayer.

1. What attracted you to begin cosplaying?

Ryan Frye: I love the idea of transforming into someone else for a little while and cosplay is perfect for that. I always try to get into the character of whatever costume I’m in.

2. How hard is it to cosplay Thor and what drew you to this character?

Ryan Frye: The hardest part is maintaining a strict workout schedule. I love that Thor is funny without trying to be and even though he is kinda brutish at times he has a good heart. It’s a fun character to explore.

3. How come you made the transition from surfing to cosplaying?

Ryan Frye: I still surf occasionally, but acting has always played a huge part in my life and cosplay is just a natural extension of that.  So I guess I’ve just made more time in my life for the things I really enjoy.

4. Are your family and friends supporting your talents and passion for cosplay?

Ryan Frye: Honestly some of my friends just don’t get it.  But they’re awesome because they still support me. Family is everything to me and I’m so blessed to have a family that supports me. I couldn’t do all the traveling I do or pursue my passions if it wasn’t for their support, encouragement and investment in me.

.5. Do you do any research about the character you chose before cosplaying?

Ryan Frye: Short answer is “yes”. If I’m not already familiar with a character but their costume catches my eye I look into their background and see if it’s a character that interests me in some way or if I’m able to relate to them. This is very important to me because like I said I like to not only wear the costume but get into character while I have it on.6. What other characters would you be interested in cosplaying in the future ?Ryan Frye: There’s too many to name! But right now I’m looking into possibly doing an Aqua Man cosplay. But not the current Aqua Man, the one from the 90’s.7. Have you attended any European Conventions and if not would you want to come to Europe as well?Ryan Frye: I’ve never been to Europe, but I would LOVE to go to a convention out there.
