Penny Dreadful 2×09 – “And Hell Itself My Only Foe”

The season finale is upon us yet “Penny Dreadful” rushes to end some story-line and deliver an action packed, full on revelations – maybe – finale. Since the show has been picked up for a new season, we can predict that the whole Lily/Dorian Grey/Creature plot will be set in motion for what is to come, leaving the last episode of this year to focus of the Nightcomers tale and maybe give us some answers.

Back in the moors, Vanessa and Ethan finally put an end on a rather not so interesting character – and by now I do have enough of the male figures of this series who resort to rape threats on Vanessa, seriously, look at the woman, she can cut your balls and feed them to you, unless you have a back up plan leading to the dead, avoid callous and shallow threats.

Back in London, Lily flirts with Dorian in a Hannibal sort of way, complete with ears being ripped and chewed. Again this alliance seems forced and the outcome of the resurrected corpses and Dorian facing Victor Frankenstein seems pointless, unless Dorian now loves Lily and really wants to do her biding with no strings attached. Something needs to be sorted here as well as with the Creature being a sucked for poetry. The scene in which he is captured by Lavinia is predictable as is the cackle coming from the Putneys. I’m sure they will end six feet under and in pieces.

Vanessa and Ethan come back to London and they put together an assault on Madam Kali’s mansion to free Sir Malcolm, who is plagued by the death of his family. Nice room of woes and tribulations since it haves the same effect on Victor facing his creations.

Now Hecate finally makes a move and tries to get Ethan on her side. Again, the outcome is something to be delivered in the next episode(s). Also, I’m willing to bet Hecate will try and maybe succeed in killing her own mother, since this family isn’t shy on homicide.

The whole debacle ends with Vanessa meeting a possessed doll. I liked the creepy way Madam Kali uses her fetish dolls but please tell me the whole finale isn’t set on a struggle between Voodoo Doll Vanessa and Vanessa aka Mistress of the Dark. Give us the Master, already!
